Our charming detached holiday cottage, La Belle Maison, was ‘christened’ by a former mayor of Plessala - its picture postcard looks are enhanced by the mature flowering shrubs surrounding the property.
The cottage sleeps up to four guests plus a baby (optional travel cot and highchair available), although it is frequently chosen by couples seeking a tranquil country retreat .
The cottage is approached through its private south-west facing garden, which benefits from the sun throughout the day and on into summer evenings, when wonderful sunsets over the forest can be enjoyed.
A traditional Breton glazed porch protects the front door which opens into a central hallway which has original terracotta floor tiles; there are coat-hooks, a mirror and a stocked bookcase here.
The dual aspect kitchen, is a lovely bright and airy room overlooking the garden. As well as the working area of the kitchen, there is plenty of space for a dining table with four chairs, plus the sideboard for crockery and a tall corner unit to store cleaning equipment out of sight.
There is a separate sitting room which has chestnut parquet flooring with carpet square to make it cosy, and a very comfortable 3 piece suite. The wood burner has a top-box that is ideal for simmering casseroles, warming plates or mulling wine in cooler months.
Further down the hall, opposite each other there are two equal sized bedrooms, either of which can accommodate a travel cot if needed.
On the left is the pretty, west facing Double bedroom; the large window has far reaching views to the distance forest. The twin bedroom benefits from the morning sun from its east facing window; the two singles beds are 90cm x 2m, meaning they are fine for adults to use.
Finally there is a spacious modern shower room which was completely refitted in January 2011 and now includes a vanity unit basin with towel radiator beside it.
The enclosed garden has a built-in stone barbecue, hardwood table with chairs and parasol in a sheltered outdoor dining space, and 2 recliners - ideal for snoozing.
“We fell in love with the cottage when we saw it advertised on the web site and the
real thing did not disappoint.”
